DVERCITY’S ARTISTE BIOGRAPHY

Dvercity has loved music for as long as he can remember, it all started as early as age five in the Sunday school choir (Boulevard Church of the Nazarene) and listening to Mr. Errol’s sound system every Saturday where he got his first taste of Reggae & Dancehall music. Meanwhile at home he was constantly surrounded by Gospel and the melodious R&B sound of artistes like Boyz II Men & Toni Braxton. It is hard to mention a few names as he has been influenced by so many Greats.

Little did he know that this early exposure would slowly but surely prepare him for his ultimate calling as an entertainer by nurturing his love and appreciation of the art form and providing his first music lessons. ‘Mi neva know it would bring back so much memories just thinking about it’….LOL

Born Leroy Christopher Anthony Griffiths on August 18th, 1983 to Yvonne Dale and V.I.P. father of same name (V.I.P. ‘bcuz him neva run lef him yute like some man’) on Baldwin Crescent Duhaney Park and later moved to neighbouring Cooreville Gardens to live with his Aunt when things never went so well with his parents. While growing up he was drawn to sports and spelling at Duhaney Park Primary where he represented the school in track & field and spelling bee, no wonder he can find a rhyme for anything.

It was no coincidence that he joined his high school choir, football & track teams and was also caught up beating benches and desks with the massive during break at school singing(don’t falla me though teck yu book!). It was however not until age 18 that he discovered he could formulate one of his poems into a fully structured song with melody and didn’t have to rely on the words of others when needing to express himself. He found it, this creative expression that would take him through life….whether at school, work, home or serious business at the studio.

He later linked up with Cashflow Records; home based in Cooreville Gardens where most of his development has taken place with namely, Neil Mitchell and X. He has a few songs getting rotation on the airwaves locally and internationally, especially via the Internet (to di wurl) and with a few singles currently released he is looking forward to getting his first overseas show and interacting with the people on a higher level. He believes he has something to prove and will continue despite difficulties until his last song.

When you say Dvercity you speak of an artiste, a dedicated jovial person and a humble independent individual who will inspire, entertain and question with his music, not someone who wants to take all the shortcuts and lack substance. However through his keen observation and wondrous imagination you can expect to hear a wide range of issues for now until he finds his niche along this musical journey. Look out for the one who is creative across genres and is comfortable whether songwriting, singing or deejaying.
