HOLLIE COOK
Hollie’s second album ‘Twice’, released on 12th May 2014 on Mr Bongo.
Hollie Cook was born and bred in West London, in a household dominated by music. She gravitated to the sounds of Marc Bolan, David Bowie and The Cure. With Sex Pistols’ Paul Cook as her dad, music was always around.
Hollie left school and joined the re-formed Slits and performed on their 2006 EP Revenge of the Killer Slits. She went on to join the band on a six week US tour. Hollie was now an official Slit – Ari referred to her as the ‘second singer’ – so when it came to record a new Slits album in L.A., Hollie’s vocals, keyboards and even her song Cry all featured.
She went on to collaborate with Ian Brown and Jamie T, before starting to work with our very own Mike “Prince Fatty” Pelanconi. Hollie’s passion for reggae singers Janet Kay and Phyllis Dillon combined with classic 60s girl groups formed the basis for her new solo work of self-coined ‘tropical pop’. The two locked themselves in the studio to record her self-titled debut album, released on Mr Bongo in the summer of 2011, followed by a dub version in 2012. Work has also begun on Hollie’s next solo album scheduled for early 2013.
Hollie has appeared on Later… with Jools Holland, supported The Stone Roses at their Heaton Park shows in Manchester.
TATANKA
Homegrown in Denver Colorado, Tatanka is a quartet specializing in the sounds of dub, progressive reggae, dancehall, and electro soundscapes. Heavy Caribbean drum and bass grooves provide the pulse for the party as the music invites you to get down and dirty. In March of 2010, this group of Denver dub samurais released their first studio E.P. entitled Sounds in Technicolor. Sounds in Technicolor has reached over 10,000 downloads through Tatanka’s website and social networking sites. The pulsing basslines provided by Tatanka’s Malonestar seem to rock the mind into trance while Champian’s guitar work and The Mexico’s hi-hat, snare and kick drum 4/4 playing styles pepper over the top of the album’s four track’s almost flawlessly. Dub Rock Syndicate recently gave the boys the title “the up and coming kings of dubtronic”.
Tatanka has shared the stage with many major national and international acts that include but are not limited to: Eoto, Slightly Stoopid, The Motet, Easy Star All-Stars, The Black Seeds, John Brown’s Body, The Expendables, Groundation, Iration, Passafire, Stick Figure and more. Tatanka has now been touring for over three years and CHAMPIAN, MALONE?, NASTY NATE, and THE MEXICO are all determined to bring the dub madness to a city near you!
