Macka B lights up the New Morning in Paris
On May 11th, 2024, after French Reggae artists Frank Jaro, and Romeo-K, UK-born Jamaican artist Ras Mack B performed at the New Morning in Paris. Alongside the Roots Ragga band, the Reggae Deejay put up quite a show that made the crowd jump up and dance. Over the course of an 80-minute show, he delivered blended entertainment and social commentary delivering some of his best hits while interacting actively with the crowd.
Tribute to Jah Shaka, Toots & Bob
He began the show with the song “Trod On,“ in tribute to the late UK selector Jah Shaka. Once the crowd was well warmed up, he grabbed a 7-inch record out of his bag in order to sing along one of his trademark hit song “Never Played A 45.” For the occasion, in a nod to the late Toots Hibbert, he briefly covered the well-acclaimed “456 Was My Number.”
Switch up the vibe
Switching to a more laid-back mood, Macka B then delivered some conscious music such as “Another Soldier.” The audience immediately joined in as soon as he began singing Bob Marley‘s peace anthem “War.”
Shortly after, Macka B and the Roots Ragga band lifted up the crowd with uptempo rhythms by performing songs such as “Sex Machine,” and of course the hit song “I Don’t Like Reggae,” cover of the 10cc‘s 1978 single “Dreadlock Holiday.”
On the “Kunta Kinte Riddim,” Mack B and the drummer engaged in a battle to showcase who performs “Warrior Style” the fastest.
Health is wealth
Known for his weekly freestyles about ital food and herbs, Macka B addressed those topics in a short interlude, before delivering songs like “Medical Marijuana Card,” and “Health Is Wealth.”
An explosive finale
After a very energetic rendition of “Don’t Drink Too Much,” the deejay left the stage. The crowd asked for an encore in vain. Despite being tired after the show, Macka B remained very receptive to the fans who asked for pictures and autographs.
