Throwback of the week: “Zion Gate Riddim”, produced by Lion Paw in 2001
The “Zion Gate Riddim” is a Modern Roots riddim inspired by The Paragons‘ single “My Satisfaction,” produced by Clement “Coxsone” Dodd in 1968 [1]. In 1977, the riddim also became known as the “Zion Gate Riddim,” with the release of Culture‘s record “Zion Gate,” produced by Joe Gibbs & Errol T. Then, a couple years later, in 1981, Ethnic Records released a cover of The Paragons‘s “My Satisfaction,“ by Barbara Jones [2].Since its release, only a few producers remade it. Indeed, Lion Paw Records produced the latest version of this riddim in 2001. It carries a lot of positive vibrations, just like the original. It is a very colorful and uplifting riddim with quickly syncopated guitar strums and dynamic percussions. One can say that Michael ‘Mikey John’ Johnson & Ian Williams did a good job in reinterpreting this late 60’s Rocksteady riddim. The compilation features Luciano, John Holt, Warrior King, Junior Kelly and more. Do not hesitate to check it out, and let us know what you think of it. Leave a comment below, and share if you like it.Source:
