Volume 1/10 – Rhythm Streetz #1: “Drop Leaf Riddim,” produced by Don Corleon, released in 2005
Sweet and melodious
The “Drop Leaf Riddim” is a truly sweet and melodious Modern One Drop riddim that was produced by Don Corleone in collaboration with Nigel “Ruff Cut” Staff and Wayne “DJ Wayne” Morris. The very first track I’ve heard from this various-artist compilation was the deeply emotional “Intoxication” performed by Gentleman that was featured on a magazine CD sampler. Even though it is a love song, it is not overly sappy. It’s about finding his/her true soulmate. To “give and to take”.
“I’ve been searching for the longest time. I was giving up. Never thought I would find it. […] Life is about to give and to take. […] Joy inna your eyes me no see no tears. Love is what you giving through all the years. Every time you need me I will be there my dear I swear.”
Features memorable tracks
The riddim also features the mournful track, “Footprints”, performed by TOK. A song which is about holding the faith and finding the strength to continue despite the grief and the sorrow.
“She asked the father why? Then, she heard a voice reply: When you cry, I cry. I cry along with you. When you smile, I smile. I smile along with you.”
