Drum Song Riddim [1996] (Digital-B)

The oldest version of the “Drum Song Riddim” dates back from 1967, when Studio One was ruling music production.

About 3 decades later, in 1996, Robert Dixon best known as Bobby Digital produced a rejuvenated version of the “Drum Song Riddim,” released under his label Digital-B. The latter features Sizzla, Morgan Heritage, Yami Bolo, and Capleton (View track list).

Bobby Digital‘s recut includes a heavy, yet digital, rhythmic organ bass line, probably as a hint to Jackie Mittoo, who played on the Studio One version alongside The Sound Dimension. It also includes digital drums.

This riddim is repetitive. Indeed, the bass line is looped over, and over from the first bar to the end, but this repetition has a sort of hypnotic drive. Besides, the horns simply sound majestic.
