Riddim Driven: “Sleng Teng Extravaganza,” produced by Lloyd ‘King Jammy’ James in 1985
This week, we are bringing back to you the “Sleng Teng Riddim” produced by Lloyd “King Jammy” James in 1985. A must-have 1980’s Dancehall CLASSIC. The ones who collect oldies must have it for sure.
The groove and simplicity of the “Sleng Teng Riddim” make it a recognizable riddim, which stands out in the crowd. It was built off a preset of the Casiotone M-40 synthesizer.
This classic riddim features a couple of hit songs by various foundation artists like Cocoa Tea, Pad Anthony, Nicodemus, and more. It also includes the hit song “Under Mi Sleng Teng” performed by Wayne Smith, who passed away at the age of 48 this Monday (02/17/14). So we thought it would be nice to pass on one of his greatest musical legacies as a tribute.
In 2005, a compilation of the best hits voiced on this riddim was released in the Riddim Driven Series under the label of VP Records.
The compilation is available for streaming on digital platforms such as Apple Music. You may click here to listen to it on Apple Music or click here to preview it.
