Bête Noire presents “A Message To Rudolph”
New York-based music collective Bête Noire released the single “A Message To Rudolph” on November 7th, 2016. This is not for everyone, whether you like it or not. Musically-speaking, it is a cover of the classic rocksteady track “Rudy, A Message To You”, made famous by Dandy Livingstone.
Though lyrically, the hook is relatively similar, in reality this song has a totally different vibe. Bête Noire‘s cut was released before the Christmas holiday and has indeed a Christmas twist. While the original track is a message to the rude boys, inviting them to change their life style, Bête Noire tells the “traditional story of the red nose reindeer Rudolph saving Christmas”.
They are not the first to ever cover this song. In the past, top notch artists such as Desmond Dekker, The Clash, The Specials, The Beach Boys and many more have interpreted this song. They probably won’t be the last. It’s nice to hear old-school music rejuvenated and passed onto younger generations.
