Bunji Garlin teams up with Damian ‘Jr Gong’ to release new crossover single entitled “The Message”
Soca sensation Bunji Garlin aka The Viking allies with Grammy-winning Reggae Dancehall artists Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley to record a new single entitled “The Message”. A deep social commentary on today’s society, which holds the value of material wealth higher than the precious gift of life. Both artistes voiced on a minimalistic Modern Hip Hop/Pop crossover beat, produced by Philip ‘Jr . Blender’ Mecksepe, with their respective styles, which leads to the emergence of an eclectic recording. The title of the track speaks for itself. Therefore, you shouldn’t be surprised if I tell you that Damian delivered a strong and wise message in the chorus. Like his brother Stephen ‘Ragga’ Marley who recently called out to the ghetto youths to raise against gang violence, he wants us to (re)act before it is too late.
While history unfolds, don’t let the good things spoil.
I rarely comment on the artwork because there is not much to say usually. But, the art cover of this single is beautiful and it would be a shame not to talk about it. It’s very colorful and well designed. The technique and colors used kind of remind me the cover of Sizzla‘s highly expected album “876”. Besides, if you take a closer look to the image, you will be able to read the lyrics of the song. If you cannot hear it, you can read it! And also the representation of the flags of Jamaica and Trinidad —the respective homelands of both artists— on feathers that the lion wears as a sign of belonging to a tribe. The single is due to be released on digital outlets on October 16th, 2015. Watch out for the official release.DOWNLOAD
