Young Vibez Production presents “Mama Pray For Me” performed by Popcaan
In a new Dancehall single, entitled “Mama Pray For Me”, Popcaan relates how uncertain and danger his future could be because of bad minds try to stop him. Thus, he calls out to his mother to pray for him. On a riddim built with a nostalgic piano melody, he sings: “Mama pray for me. Jah rule my destiny.” alongside female back vocal singers, which emphasize the depth of his call.Lyrically, this song sort of reminds me of “Even If They Kill Me” by Mavado. Both artists express their concerns about unexpectedly leaving their family behind because of their lifestyles. So they try to comfort them and more precisely their mothers who would probably be the most affected by their death.
“Pagans want see me dead. […] Them want see me drop. Them nah go see that.”
In a certain way “Mama Pray For Me” is quite a sad song but Popcaan achieves to smooth the sadness out of it and make it sound heartwarming and hopeful.
