Justin Hinds & The Dominoes – Carry Go Bring Come
Before the rise of the Reggae movement, when Ska music was at its peak, Justin Hinds & The Dominoes recorded “Carry Go Bring Come” for Duke Reid‘s record label Treasure Isle Records in 1963. The jolly melody of the horn section backed up by the steady pace of the drum beat will get you rocking and skanking. The song is as musically exciting as lyrically witty. What’s really interesting about this song is that it is one of the very first tracks which refer to Rastafarian culture before the emergence of Reggae music. “Carry Go Bring Come” is a caribbean saying which stands for “gossips”. In this single, Justin Hinds sings about a lady named Jezebel —like the princess in the Hebrew Book of Kings—, who loves gossips and propose to move to “Mount Zion High” in order to stay away from the chatty chatty mouth. In the 1980’s, the same topic will be covered by Jacob Miller and his band the Inner Circle in the Roots Reggae single “Tenement Yard”. And the latter single has been covered this year by Chronixx in collaboration with Inner Circle.DOWNLOAD “Carry Go Bring Come”For more music from Justin Hinds & The Dominoes, check out iTunes.
